Baby it’s freaking cold!

By eatfruit

Generally the winter doesn’t bother me so much. I don’t mind hibernating for a few days, but this cold snap is another reminder of how much longer we’re going to be stuck inside. It will be such a relief when the temps rise enough to take the kids out for long walks again.

So anyway, we’re going a little bonkers. What are you doing to combat cabin fever? Any fun ideas? Maybe we’ll start growing some grass seed inside or something. I’m sick of seeing white outside.

Yesterday Maren played with junk for about an hour. With some help ripping the duct tape she made this.
Problem is, she thinks we need to keep every. single. thing. she ever makes. Even if it’s a scribble on a scrap of paper. She’s got this radar then helps her locate every project I hide under piles of trash in the wastebasket. Then she acts totally offended and disgusted with me for disposing of her hard work.

My 5 year old is constantly digging things I’ve tossed of hers, out of the trash. It does help if I say, let’s take a picture of it, so we can remember it forever. Then sometimes she is willing to part with it!

we usually don’t have this much cold weather before january, so we feel like the cold should be about over. man the next few months are going to suck.

I had to comment because I have the same problem with my son- he wants to save EVERYTHING. Thankfully his memory is like mine and I can throw it out when he’s at school and he never remembers.

But the ones that I know he WILL notice, we take a picture of him with it and that seems to allow him to part with it. That, or I send it to a relative and make them deal with it’s eventual disposal :)

I love the “trash” art idea. We may have to steal that!

I also have to comment because my oldest also has the problem of never wanting to part WITH ANYTHING. He’ll keep the scraps from an art project because he “..could make something out of it.”

He too creates “projects” out of trash and other things and they sit in his room for months… until I get so sick of tripping over them that I sneak in while he’s at school and clean everything out.

He DEFINITELY notices and my excuse is… “I don’t know buddy…maybe Daddy did something with it…”

I’ve had to start hiding his school papers under cereal boxes in the recycling because he was digging all of them out…

The picture thing doesn’t work here- let me know if you figure anything out!
