We always seem to have a problem finishing up the last few pieces of bread in a loaf. Solution? Paint it?!
Easy kid poroject with little to no prep time and simple to clean up. This is a great way to use up that day(s) old bread.
What you need:
2 or 3 shallow bowls
Milk
Bread or buns
Food coloring
Paintbrush (clean!)
Protect your surface before you start. Pour less than 1/4 C. milk into each bowl. Let the kids decide what color to use. 2 or 3 drops of each color is plenty. A little goes a long way with this one.
We used sliced buns as our canvas. Then give them a paintbrush and let them have at it! You can make this a guided lesson in color mixing as well. We had fun turning blue into purple.
We toasted the bread/buns for even more vivid colors and less soggy taste. Enjoy!
* I am a huge hypocrite for posting about healthy bath and body choices earlier this week and then encouraging your kids to eat food coloring. Yah. I know. But it’s just a teeny tiny amount. Does that make it better?

Not a hypocrite – you just found a great way to encourage less waste and the consumption of homemade, healthful bread! How can that be bad? Heck, if you wanted to, you could probably find more natural ways to dye the milk (beet juice, etc.), but if you did, I’d have to accuse you of trying to make the rest of us look bad even more.
