I wanted to teach her a bit about animals and habitats, and how to care for a living pet. Yes, we have a terrestrial dog, but always wanted something aquatic, but never took the plunge because fish, frogs, turtles, etc. are usually 'high maintenance'. It's nice to know this product requires minimal effort to maintain or care for! I too, purchased one of these for my inquisitive 4 year old. I remember growing up and my dad would not allow anything to enter the house that was not made in the USA. Unfortunately, when I was about 12 or 13 my mom could no longer do it.
